Thanks for telling us about this Brian I am interested to see what issues are raised. I find that if you can label a mental health issue ie. Depression anxiety bi-polar etc, most people will be quite sympathetic, However, if someone says that they have mental health issues the majority will run a mile.

That is so true! When I had cancer no-one minded asking about my health and always seemed to have time to go into every little detail.....when I suffered from depression, everyone gave me a wide berth!!! Well, that's not actually true - my good friends, of course, stood by me - but even members of my own family were uncomfortable about me having 'mental health issues'.

I have a theory that our brains rebel. We 'max out' on input in the modern lifestyle - constant noise, information and pressure of one sort or another - and our brains just say "If you won't quit, I will!" All we need is a little peace and chilling time on a regular basis to allow our minds to creatively prioritise all the info we process. We are not all the same and some of us need different things and different quality information to nourish our souls.
I am looking forward to these programmes.....thanks Brian

Brian,
Thank's for the info, I studied this topic on my degree course and was quite suprised at some peoples view of mental ilness and how they responded to it. We also looked at the history of the assylums and some of the old-fashioned (but at the time revoluntionary) treatments and they made me cringe at the thought of it today. I'll keep an eye out for the programs.

Cheers

John
