Alice in Wonderland 3D 4 Replies

Went to see it last night and it was okay. I was not impressed - although I preferred it to the book! I never could stand the Lewis Carrol original and the 3D film is funnier....and it has Jonny Depp…

Crazy Heart - Jeff Bridges (Oscar winner)

I really enjoyed this film, it seemed quite long though. It is about a Country & Western singer who is down on his luck due to his addiction to drink & drugs. He has a genuine gift & is h…

Step Mothers Support Group by Sam Baker

What a great book, finished the final chapter this morning and couldn't put it down.  A bit of a girls book and in a similar style to Marian Keyes.   Inspiring to those who can relate to being a step…

The Brass Verdict - Michael Connelly (Thriller)

I fell for Connelly's writing style about 10 years ago and read so much of it that I went off him for a while. I have just finished The Brass Verdict and I'm hooked again!    Detective Harry Bosch is…

Brilliant......I do agree, Brian. It was an amazing film packed with talent and it still stands up today (like all really good quality productions).

Thanks for your contribution but, like Lorraine, I would ask for future subjects to be added using the Start Discussion button (just above the Add a Comment box). This enables other people to look at items which have been submitted some time ago and, also, to add their comments in the appropriate spot. Anyone can add their favourite film/book etc......but so far it seems to be all ME. Don't let that put you off - give it a go - and it may enlarge the discussion. If you wanted to you could copy your entry and transfer it to Start Discussion by pasting what you had copied into the new dialogue box......but you don't have to, it's just an idea. Thanks so much for joining in Brian, I love your taste, I'm a real David Lean fan. Nearly bumped into Peter O'Toole one day as he leapt out of a taxi - he was smaller than I expected - but I nearly died of joy, anyway! I was only 19.

Ryans Daughter
A story of love, of a English officer and an Irish woman set against the violence of rebellion.
One of the most underrated, and criticised for its perceived depiction of that period in Irish history.
This film is one of the most beautiful epic ever put on screen.
Superb acting by Sarah Miles as Rosy Ryan, Trevor Howard as Father Howard,
Robert Mitchum as Charles Shaughnessy, Christopher Jones as Randolph Doryan, Leo McKern as Thomas Ryan and the acting by John Mills as a 'Village Idiot' has to be one of his finest, an Oscar for the best supporting actor for his outstanding performance richly deserved. An Oscar for Best Cinematography to Freddie Young. And 9 other awards.
Having seen the film countless times, I just love it more and more.

Directed by David Lean who directed:
In which we serve, Blithe spirit, Brief Encounter, Great Expectations, Oiver Twist, Bridge on the Rive Kwai, Hobsons Choice, Lawrence of Arabia and Doctor Zhivago.

Lorraine - if you click on Start a Discussion - just above the Comment Wall - you will be able to give us more information about the book and author, also where it is et and what the outline of the story is. I have not heard of the book, is it recent?

Thanks for your contribution, I'm still forging on with The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown (which I started before Christmas!) and I promise I will give it a writeup.......but don't hold your breath!!

Best wishes - Marg

Some of you may not be aware that there is a slot on Film 4 on Thurs morning at 11o'clock which features Art House type films and some of the old less seen black and whites. They are often foreign language with sub-titles but almost always enjoyable and this week was a little piece of heaven! I have put a crit above - if you get the chance to see it or buy the DVD you will not be disappointed.

Thanks for joining Rachel, my son gave me the book for my birthday and I have been so busy I just have not had time to start it. I will make an extra effort in view of your recommendation, his writing is really accessible so it shouldn't prove difficult to get into.

I am a huge fan of Dan Brown, so I was most excited when the latest book came out! 'The Lost Symbol' I absolutely loved it. The film should be spectacular when they eventually make it.
