In Hertfordshire we have quite a few bridges that are narrow and they are controlled by traffic lights. It seems to work well. Is this unusual ?
Hooray ! Germany has put one over on Argentina - that's made my day. - Hank

I think these bridges need high-raised sleeping-policemen, that should help.

I have used screenwash always in my washer bottles. On many new cars now the washer bottle is not located in the engine compartment but in the wheel arch. I can see along with emission tests that they will introduce testing for legionaires as part of the mot.

Geoff I am like you I read so many reports that contradict one another. However at Abbots Langley our water heating has been raised considerably because of the dangers of Legionnaires disease. Years ago there was a panic over a group of of men dying after a Legionnaires meeting - hence the name.
It was proved to be down to tanks of stagnant water on the roof and test were made over a large area that proved the point. I guess it is a case of use your brain, you either say "Rubbish" or "Perhaps" --- Hank

Is this scaremongering or what? Screenwashers have been fitted on cars for forty years now,I have never heard of anyone caching legionaires disease from this source. Is it just another rip off to get us to buy screenwash? Geoff

Thanks for the reminder Hank - I did hear it on the news and meant to buy some but had forgotten until I read your post. Now it's in my phone! - Marg

New research by the Health Protection Agency (HPA) suggests that water from windscreen washer jets could be the cause of one in five cases of Legionnaires' Disease.
THAT QUOTE above is quite alarming. It appears that when we use the windscreen washers it is easy to inhale via the air vents. The answer is never use plain water always add an anti bacterial liquid to your screen washer. People like Halfords would sell it. --- Hank

I don't know if people are aware that garages that offer a courtesy car have a cut off age limit. This is to do with the insurance company that covers their vehicles.
You can get round this if your own insurance will cover the courtesy car.
I learned the hard way. --- Hank

Road Grit/Salt - Three days' stock applies to Local Authorities (though they can hold more if they consider it advisable). The Highways Agency had 15 days of salt stock but had to run this down to top up LAs who had not ordered enough or soon enough. If your LA did not tie up their capital storing salt for the roads maybe you should suggest that they do so in future. Then we're almost certain to have a mild winter so that everyone can moan about tying up money that isneeded for more important things!
